Job Prays In the Face of Adversity
Job 7:17-21
I read yesterday how Job had lost everything and yet he blessed God.  In succeeding chapters, Satan would be given leave to attack his health without taking his life. His friends had come and begun pontificating as to the reason for his suffering. The gist of the speech of Eliphaz in the previous chapters was that if Job would confess his sins, God would restore his losses. In the Transformation Study Bible, Wiersbe notes, “If Job had given up his integrity and confessed, he would have disgraced Jehovah and vindicated Satan” (Transformation Study Bible). Now in these verses He cries out to God, asking God to show him how his life has not aligned with His expectations. Years later, David would utter a similar prayer in Psalm 139:23-24 as he invited God to search him and then to lead him in a way that is pleasing to Him. Our response to adversity will frequently reveal our concept of God.
